Cultural Narrative:

St. Mary's Mexican Food, located on St. Mary's Road in Tucson, Arizona, has been family owned and operated since 1978. Owner Luis Salazar's grandparents began cooking and selling tortillas in 1967 before moving to a small shop on St. Mary's Road called the "Tamale Factory." In 1969, Luis's mother took over the family business and developed a 10 item menu, in addition to their staple tortillas and weekend menudo. She officially took over the business in 1980 and after their food quickly rose in popularity and they outgrew their small, 2-room operation, the Salazar family moved the business to an abandoned bar. This abandoned bar is now where St. Mary's Mexican Food sits today, where they've been serving the community since 1988. Take the full Historypin tour here
