Cultural Narrative:

La Indita restaurant was founded in 1983 by Maria Garcia. The restaurant moved to its current location on 4th Ave in 1985. The restaurant is known not only for its food, but for its patio, which operates as a kind of gathering place or community center. Maria will often host community groups for fundraisers or meetings, at no additional charge. Her menu combines traditional Mexican dishes with Tarascan and Tohono O'odham influences. One of the many murals inside La Indita, and Garcia's favorite, is of a landscape of her hometown and her family's countryside adobe house in Michoacan, Mexico. Maria is extremely passionate about indigenous rights and causes in the United States and Mexico. Take the full Historypin tour here
