Los Alteños

It all started thirteen years ago when Maria’s Uncle Juan and her mother, Bertha opened up Los Alteños. Located at 1481 S Milton Road in Flagstaff, AZ, this restaurant is situated at the crossroads of Northern Arizona University. While its clientele is diverse, Maria says that NAU students make up the majority of customers due its convenient location. Founders Bertha and Juan are local to Flagstaff and have lived in the area for over 25 years, while the family’s original heritage roots back to northern Jalisco.

These days, Juan is mostly retired, while Bertha continues to cook up her family recipes which have been handed down for generations. Meanwhile, Maria manages the staff, helps with food prep, and manages the restaurant’s social media and communications. Maria describes the restaurant as a kind of home away from home for its customers.
