St Mary's Mexican Food
St. Mary’s Mexican Food, on 1030 W St Mary's Rd in Tucson, Arizona, is a food establishment that has long roots in the Old Pueblo. Its beginnings can be traced back to the 1950s, when the first restaurant was founded not far from its current location. The grandparents and parents of the current owner, Luis Salazar, ran things until the next generations of their family took the helm. Family-owned from the start, the current generation literally grew up in the business and enjoys serving the community.
Known for its handmade tortillas crafted through years of experience, St. Mary's Mexican Food offers dishes served in the Sonoran cooking style. It is in fact one of few restaurants in Tucson that sells hand-stretched tortillas, which are difficult to make. The most popular foods among customers include green and red chilies.
The restaurant treats everyone as family: customers are typically served on a first-name basis thanks to all of the regulars. and it has contributed a good deal to the creation and ongoing preservation of close community ties in the city.
Besides providing a relaxed environment and delivery service during the busy holiday season, the business is also a foundational stepping stone for the owner's younger family members hoping to take part in its operations. While its staff does not do much advertising outside of its website, it may someday expand to include another building.
